Evidence and Indigenous peoples’ knowledge in human rights courts: Access to justice and knowledge representation dilemmas

This research focuses on how requirements for evidence limit Indigenous peoples’ access to, and representation of knowledge in, human rights courts, and how the evidence regime in place does, can and should accommodate different knowledge systems and transmission formats, including those from Indigenous peoples. The research is part of DISSECT project and is funded by the European Research Council (2020-2025). From June-September 2022 and from January-October 2023 Nina is performing fieldwork in Ecuador where she is focusing on the two cases Pueblos Indígenas Tagaeri Taromenane vs Ecuador and Pueblo Indígena Kichwa de Sarayaku vs Ecuador, litigated at the Inter-American Court of Human Rights.
