Benoit Dhondt is a practicing lawyer and a teaching assistant at the Legal Clinic. He studied law in Ghent (2008), where he also completed a preparatory program in Political Science and his Masters in Conflict and Development (2010). He moved to the United Kingdom to complete a study of Theory and Practice of Human Rights at the University of Essex (2011).
Before starting to work as a lawyer specialized in migration law and refugee rights Benoit Dhondt worked for the Belgian Committee for Aid to Refugees, operational partner of UNHCR in Belgium, where he focused on asylum seekers in detention and an analysis of the effectiveness of the request for suspension in extreme urgency with the Council of Aliens Law Litigation in light of article 13 of the ECHR.
Since 2012 Benoit Dhondt has been practicing law at the Antwerp Bar. As a lawyer he focusses mainly on issues of migration law and refugee law and represents clients before Belgian courts and tribunals as well as the European Court of Human Rights.
