Büşra Cebeci is a doctoral researcher at the Human Rights Centre of Ghent University, beginning her PhD in October 2025. She holds an MSc in Peace and Conflict from University College Dublin and a BSc in Psychology, with a special focus on Political Psychology, from Middle East Technical University. Her master’s thesis examined Collective Memory and Transitional Justice in post-conflict Lebanon, reflecting her deep interest in how societies reckon with past violence.
Before joining Justice Visions, Büşra gained valuable experience in the humanitarian and development sectors, including with the International Organization for Migration (IOM) in Geneva and Welthungerhilfe on the Turkish-Syrian border. In 2023, she also contributed to emergency response efforts following the devastating earthquakes in Türkiye. Her previous roles focused on migration, protection and community-based approaches in fragile contexts, which sparked her interest in transitional justice from the ground up.
At Ghent University, Büşra is part of the ERC-funded GROUNDOC project, which explores how grassroots justice actors in aparadigmatic contexts are innovating transitional justice practices, especially through documentation.
Her doctoral research examines feminist counter-archives in Türkiye as a form of “Aparadigmatic Transitional Justice” amidst state-led impunity. She investigates how grassroots documentation challenges the obfuscation of gender-based violence data and creates alternative records of truth. Her work theorizes these practices as vital tools for accountability and resistance in contexts where formal justice transitions are absent.
