- Academic Assistant Human Rights Law (2014 – ongoing)
Evelyn Merckx is Academic Assistant in human rights law at the Department of European, Public and International Law. She holds a Master of Law from Ghent University (2014). Her research interests concern international human rights law, children’s rights, family law, international humanitarian law and (international) criminal law. Her Master thesis concerned the focus of the European Union on human rights law and humanitarian law in the accession process of the ex-Yugoslavian candidate states, in particular with regard to their history of violent conflicts.
Evelyn assists Prof. Dr. Yves Haeck in the Bachelor course of Human Rights Law at Ghent University. In her PhD research Evelyn adopts an intradisciplinary approach by studying the compliance of Belgian family law with international human rights law and children’s rights. The PhD namely focusses on children’s rights and child-friendly justice in custody and access proceedings during and after parental separation.
Evelyn is a member of the Programme for Studies on Human Rights in Context.
