Lou Vanbeselaere's Bio

Lou Vanbeselaere (he/him) is a doctoral researcher at the Institute for International Research on Criminal Policy (IRCP) and a member of the Human Rights Centre (HRC). Lou graduated in 2022 with a Master of Laws degree from Ghent University. He developed a particular interest in the interaction between European law and fundamental rights and freedoms during his studies.

Under the guidance of Prof. Dr. Wendy De Bondt, Lou’s research examines the interpretation and scope of the concept of “criminal matters” in EU law, within the context of judicial cooperation in criminal matters. By critically analyzing the evolving jurisprudence and legal instruments, his work contributes to understanding how fundamental rights are balanced and operationalized within this domain.
