Mario Andrés Torres Gómez is a PhD researcher at Ghent University. Mario holds a Master in International Law, and a Master in Law (University of the Andes, Colombia). Mario works under the supervision of Prof. Clara Burbano in the Programme for Studies on Human Rights in Context. His research is about the impact of strategic litigation in the protections of prisoners rights, with a case study in Colombia, Brazil and Venezuela.
Mario has worked as project manager in several strategic litigation efforts in favor of afro colombian and palenquero communities with the support of the United Stated Agency for Development (USAID). Prior, he was lecturer of International Law and Constitutional Law at the Faculty of International Relations at University Jorge Tadeo Lozano (Bogotá, Colombia) and Legal Counsel in the Prisons Group at the Faculty of Law of the University of the Andes (Bogotá, Colombia). Mario has previously worked as a Legal Counsel in the Colombian Ministry of Justice and a researcher in criminology in the Centre for Socio-Juridical Studies (CIJUS) at the University of the Andes.
