Raoul Rombouts (he/him) is a doctoral researcher at the Law & Diversity Research Group, and a member of the Human Rights Centre (HRC). Raoul graduated in 2023 as a Master of Laws from Ghent University. He followed courses on Human Rights Law, Gender, Multiculturality, Sexual Offences, Migration, Constitutional Law and also participated in the Human Rights Legal Clinic, during which he developed his passion and interest for research in Human Rights and Equality Law.
Combining sociolegal and traditional legal methods, his research focuses on the role of bystanders to instances of employment discrimination in legal proceedings and negotiation cases through equality bodies. Under the supervision of prof. dr. Pieter Cannoot and dr. Cathérine Van de Graaf, he will develop a theoretical framework, empirically analyse case law and negotiation case files and conduct interviews with relevant actors, thus filling the knowledge hiatus around the topic.
