UN monitoring bodies play an important yet reasonably understudied role in the protection of human rights. This is even more the case with regard to so-called Urgent Appeals and Urgent Actions before monitoring bodies. The research will inter alia examine in which circumstances the supervisory bodies resort to such measures, and how states react to such appreals and actions.
